Avoid Breakdowns 2017 Maziak Compressor Services

Avoid Breakdowns

Are you doing all you can to protect your compressed air system this winter?

Freezing temperatures can adversely affect all compressed air equipment and many have a built-in safety feature that will prevent start-up when too cold (typically 1oC). Condensate can also form if the temperature drops too low (typically 2oC) which could freeze and cause pipes and air coolers to split or block control lines with ice causing machines to go over pressure.

In order to try and help avoid expensive repairs or unscheduled downtime during cold snaps (especially if you shut down over the festive period), Maziak would recommend you follow these proactive and preventative measures:
• Keep ambient temperatures to a minimum of 5oC.
• Drain the system by opening all manual drain valves (when the compressor is powered down). Consider H&S risks from the stored energy when doing this (training is available).
• Keep refrigerant dryers switched on to maintain operating temperature and drain excess water from the evaporator.
• Keep all external pipework to a minimum and ensure it is lagged with insulation.

It is also advisable that equipment is regularly maintained not only to prevent failure but also to comply with the Pressure Systems Directive.

• Follow manufacturer servicing guidelines.
• Be aware of PSSR requirements.
